An easy way to help your kids practice multiplication is to turn it into a game. Making it a bit of fun will help them practice without knowing it! Here are 2 easy games to try:
Roll The Dice
You will need:
2 dice
pen
paper for writing down the multiplication equation & answer (you can use our free downloadable here)
The Game
Roll the 2 die at the same time and whatever lands you need to multiply the 2 numbers. For example, if they roll a 2 and a 6 it would be 2 x 6 = 12… They can either do this in their head or write down the multiplication equation on the sheet of paper.
Flip The Dominoes
You will need:
dominoes
pen
paper for writing down the multiplication equation & answer (free downloadable here)
The Game
Place all of the dominoes face down on the table. Ask your child to pick one up and whatever they get – multiply the 2 numbers together. For example, if they pick up a domino with 5 and 4 they will multiply 5 x 4 = 20. Again, they can either do the sum in their heads or write it on the paper.
Making a game of it will help them have fun while learning. If you have a child that is spurred on by a bit of competition then you can mix it up and time them. Challenge them to see how many multiplication equations they can do in 60 seconds!
Enjoy!
