Is Independence Day Resurgence Appropriate For My Tween or Teen To Watch?

0

I had the chance to get along to the premiere of the latest Independence Day Resurgence movie release and first of all I just want to say I was feeling very old lol.  20 years it has been since the first Independence Day … come on that makes you feel really old too.

My motivation for going along was to check out the content to report back on whether or not I thought it was appropriate for kids to watch.

The story line is similar to that of the 1996 movie but this is a sequel rather than a remake about the return of the aliens 20 years later. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare them for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring the world back from the brink of extinction.

So what you need to know as parents sending your kiddos along to see this movie.  It is rated M however I would say this was due to alien themes rather than inappropriate content.  This movie had no bad language, no inappropriate sexual content and no graphic violence throughout the whole thing which I thought was fantastic.

There was a war against aliens which meant guns and people dying but this did not play out in a way that I thought was gory and graphic.  Similar to what you might have seen with the latest Star Wars movie.  The aliens were quite scary looking so if your kids don’t do scary looking monsters / aliens very well then I would avoid this.  My 8 year old would not cope with the visual content of this movie and it would give her bad dreams so I would not consider letting her watch this.

If your children have watched Jurassic Park and the lasted Star Wars movie I put this movie in a similar category to that in terms of appropriateness.  You can check out the trailer below …

Being a mum to 3 kids (one of them full time at home with me) and trying to juggle everything became pretty crazy.
