Weekly life can get super busy these days with all of the drop offs, pick ups and after school activities. With a busy schedule, it can sometimes be hard to find and determine the right time to get the ever so pestering task of homework done. Sometimes it is hard to decide exactly when it should be done, should it be done in the afternoon when they get home? Should it be done in the mornings? When is the right time to get this often daunting task done and out of the way?
We had a post about this on our School Mum facebook page and some of the best ideas suggested by School Mum are listed below …
- One of the best ways to encourage getting homework done is to ban television and video games until all the homework is complete. Lots of children love to get electronic when they get home from school and once they start playing their video games chances are you are going to have a fight on your hands to get them to stop playing and get the homework started. If the kids know that they can have the fun stuff when they are finished their homework, then getting them to get it done should make it that little bit easier.
- Other mums find encouraging their kids to do their homework within an hour or so after getting home is the best way. Allowing their children some time to relax, have a snack and a drink, maybe even a little free play and then by a certain time they have to start their homework.
- Many other parents like to have their children do their homework while they are preparing meals, so that they are there to supervise and help with anything the child may need help with.
- Having your child do homework first thing in the mornings before school is also an option. Some children love to wake up early and find it easier to be fresh and ready to go in the morning.
When you choose to have your child do their homework is up to you and your child. Each family and child is different and finding something that works for everyone can take a little bit of trial and error. With time and perseverance hopefully you will be able to find the best routine that works for you.
