If your kiddos don’t like getting out of bed in the morning then this blog post might have an idea or two to make it that little bit easier getting them up and out. We asked mums how they go about getting their kids up and going in the mornings. Here are some of the top ideas.
1. Bring your kid a cup of hot tea or milo. They will have to sit up to hold a hot cup of liquid and, they will have a chance to wake up while enjoying their tea.
2. Give them an alarm clock; tell them to set it for whenever they want, but if their late for school they are grounded.
3. Walk in, open the curtains and turn their music on really loud. If turning their music on doesn’t work, and then try blasting yours.
4. Wake them up with a warm face washer. Start washing their face, kids at that age don’t want their parent washing them, they will get up.
5. Use a water pistol. Spray them a few times, after a short time you should only have to threaten them with it.
6. If your child is late to school, drive them to the school in your pajamas. If you would like to, even walk them into the class with your pajamas on, a few times of doing that, the child will get up.
7. If they are constantly late or missing school, they will punish them with detention, etc… make it their responsibility to get up and go, if they don’t get up and it is late then they will learn the consequences from the school quickly.
8. Set a few alarms around their room they have to get up to turn off.
9. Have them get everything ready for school the night before. Have the school uniform set out, lunch made, bag packed. All that the child will have to do when they get up is get dressed, eat breaky and out the door they go.
10. Remove technology – if you can’t be out of bed and ready for school by such and such a time, then you can’t have your phone/iPod after dinner as that is usually why they are too tired to get moving in the morning.
11. For each minute that your child stays in the bed, make them go to bed that much earlier at night.
12. Some children really like having mum lying in bed with them and having a conversation. Give them a pep talk; tell them how much you love them and how awesome they are.
13. Leave them in bed, go about your business, when they realize they are late they might worry and decide for themselves an alarm clock is something that they need.
14. Do not allow any electronics/technology in their room when it’s time for lights out. This will prevent them from being up odd hours of the night chatting with their friends.
These are just a few ideas suggested by School Mums to encourage your kids to get out of bed in the morning. If you have any great ideas we would love to hear them in a comment below 🙂
