If your kids love a singing competition, then this movie is for them. We recently popped along to a preview screening of the Sing movie and it was a hoot. Both of my kids love all things singing and competitions so this combination was a winner.
Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, SING stars Buster Moon (Academy Award®winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theatre that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theatre above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.
We actually took our 2 year old son along with us to see this movie which was his first time ever at the big movies. It has been over a week since we saw it and everyday he keeps talking about the big piggie and wanting to go see the big piggie again haha. He was able to stay focused and interested for most of the movie but I did notice the movie was a little longer than other kids movies we had seen in the past at 1 hour and 50 mins running time.
This movie is great for a broad range of ages and there is nothing inappropriate about it. The great thing about Sing is a 3 or 4 year old could happily watch along and it would also be enjoyed by tweens in my honest opinion. I think it is great choice for a whole family experience because it isn’t “babyish” but is still easy to follow along and enjoy for smaller children.
There is only one slightly scaryish scene in the movie which involved a flood like scenario where people are trapped for a short period of time in rising water but it all ended ok.

Thanks for this great review of Sing schoolmum! I agree with you about the versatility of this movie. I’m going to be showing it to my 6th graders at the end of our current unit and possibly to a group of 3rd graders I tutor at the end of the year. I think both groups will enjoy and learn from it even though there is a huge difference between 3rd and 6th graders.
I’m going to use this movie guide I created to go along with. I’ll update you on how it goes : ) Sometimes the theory doesn’t hold up in practice, but I’m hoping that they’ll walk away feeling confident to follow their dreams no matter how the world tries to discourage them.
