The September/October School Holidays will SPRING UP before we know it! It is best to have a few activities up your sleeve. We have put together a list that has a free activity for each Australian capital city to help you in your planning and preparation.
Sydney
Become a T.rexpert at the Australian Museum’s Dinosaur Festival. There will be a range of dinosaur themed activities on offer on the school holidays from film screenings, science workshops and even a Dinosaur Disco! For more information and details visit www.australianmuseum.net.au.
Entry to the museum is free for kids under 16 years. Some activities incur a charge and require you to book ahead.
Brisbane
Riverfire is Brisbane’s night of nights. A free night of fireworks and fun for the whole family! Brisbane lights up the sky with a spectacular fireworks display. It will be held on Saturday 30 September 2017. For more information click here.
Melbourne
If your kids love their AFL Footy, this is one for you! Leading up to the AFL Grand Final, the 2017 Premiership Cup will be on display at the Queen Victoria Markets (cnr of Therry & Queen Streets). The kids can have their photo taken with the Cup, as well as with 2 AFL players!
To be held on Tuesday 26 September 2017 from 11am to 1pm. This is a free event and no bookings are required.
Adelaide
The Adelaide Town Hall Open Day is on Sunday 8 October 2017 from 10:30am to 4pm. It will be a day filled with fun and unique experiences for the whole family. Highlights include:
– A children’s ‘treasure hunt’, a colouring in competition, photo booth and more
– Bellringers in the Tower
– Performance by the City of Adelaide Band
– The City of Adelaide Archives booth
– Performance using the Town Hall organ
– Town Criers will be out in full force
– The Lord Mayor will open his office to visitors
– Never before opened-to-public rooms to explore
This is a free event and no bookings are required.
Hobart
There are some really cool activities happening in Hobart these school holidays but they cost a small fee (generally $5.50 per child). For example, Bush Adventures are teaming up with Circus Art Tasmania and presenting a kids circus session where kids can test their skills or learn some new ones whilst making new friends! This will be held on Thursday 5 October from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Waterworks Reserve, Site 9, Waterworks Rd, Ridgeway.
There is also a Bush Bingo Scavenger Hunt running at Mt Nelson Signal Station on Friday 13 October 2017 from 10am to 11:30am. The cost for this is also $5.50 per child.

Canberra
The Australian War Memorial will again open their free Discovery Zone every day of the school holidays, allowing kids to get hands on and interactive with the museum. Kids can sit in helicopters, walk through a submarine, walk through a WWI trench and learn more about life in wartime.
Your kids can climb, crawl, jump, touch and explore in all areas of the Discovery Zone.

Darwin
The Darwin Waterfront has an exciting range of free activities planned for the October school holidays. Including a rock painting workshop on Wednesday 4 October 2017 from 10am to 12pm at 7 Kitchener Dr, Darwin.
This is a free event suited to kids of all ages.
Perth
Secret Harbour Square is running free school holiday activities from 11am to 2pm daily.
The range of activities include:
Tuesday 26 September – Paint a pot and plant a flower workshop
Wednesday 27 September – Become any creature you like with free face painting
Thursday 28 September – Children can create their very own bug on a peg!
Tuesday 3 October – Pop stick flowers
Wednesday 4 October – Free face painting
Thursday 5 October – Sun & Rainbow Dream Catchers
