On the weekend the kids and I had the opportunity to attend the preview screening on the new Lego Ninjago Movie.
My boys are Lego lovers from way back who have really enjoyed previous Lego movies and series. The Lego Ninjago Movie was true to Lego style with great animation, bright colours and a pumping soundtrack.
The plot tells the story of how Green Ninja Lloyd battles his warlord father Lord Garmadon – both emotionally and physically – to ultimately save the city of Ninjago.
There are lots of high intensity battle scenes which my action-loving eight year old thought were great. Obviously, being a Lego movie, there was no graphic violence.
There were some darker scenes and spooky elements such as skeletons, however, my 3 year old daughter wasn’t scared. In fact, her favourite character was Lord Garmadon!
I did find it a little hard to follow along on the dialogue at times and I think it helped that we have watched the Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu series, so were well acquainted with the main characters.
The movie was full of one liners and lots of “dad jokes” for the adult viewers. My favourite were the wisecracks of Master Wu, voiced by Jackie Chan.
Like any good kids’ movie, there were some strong moral themes around friendship and being true to oneself.
The Lego Ninjago Movie is released in Australia 21st September, 2017 – just in time for school holidays and you can checkout the trailer below …
