How good is living in Australia.  We have amazing beaches and weather and summertime is always a highlight for our family.

We have so many fabulous memories with our kids over the years at the beach and in the family pool on a lazy summer afternoon.  It’s such a great time of year.

Earlier this year I wrote a post on the worst 20 seconds of your life. It was about the mind-blowing realisation that it can take as little as 20 seconds for a child to drown.  Yes, you heard that right … 20 seconds.

When I heard about the Westpac Rescue Rashies I thought to myself what a super clever idea for kids to teach them about CPR and a great reminder to adults about the best way to administer it.  The rashies are a little special as they will not only protect your child from the sun but they also feature vital, easy to follow CPR instructions that are concealed when not needed, then revealed via a simple zip in the event of an emergency. The CPR instructions are specially embedded into the fabric in a way that means they won’t peel or scratch off.

How awesome is that!!

As a proud supporter of Australia and all Australians, Westpac wants to ensure all people have the freedom to enjoy the wonderful country in which we live. That’s why Westpac is committed to supporting those who help to protect us, through the Westpac Lifesaving Rescue Helicopter Service, the Westpac Little Rippers, and the Westpac Rescue Rashies

The Rescue Rashie retails for $35.00 online via the Rescue Rashie website plus all proceeds from Rescue Rashies are donated to Take Heart Australia to support the ongoing education of CPR.

Below is a great little video you can watch as a CPR reminder in the lead up to swimming season.

Not only will they teach your kids about CPR but they will also protect them from the sun too. Recently for the first time ever I went to have my skin checked with a skin specialist. After years of playing and swimming in the Australian sun I thought it was time. It was one of those things I had been meaning to do for years but never got around to it.

I am always curious and ask lots of questions when I do things for the first time so I started asking the skin specialist about skin cancers.

Some of the things I learnt still frighten me to this day.  Firstly, I learnt that melanomas can be genetic so if you have a history of them in your family you really need to get regular checks.

I was talking about my kids and sunburn and what kind of things I should be aware of and then I found this out.  The specialist told me it only takes one bad burn as a child to increase their chances of developing a melanoma as an adult by 50%. Say whattttttt?.

Yes, you heard me right. ONE BAD BURN!!!

I have always been sun smart with my kids and diligent with sunscreen, hats and all of the things but I did not know that all it can take is one bad burn to trigger a genetic predisposition to develop a melanoma.

So if you’re looking to keep your kids safe this summer around the pool make sure you check out the Westpac Rescue Rashies.  Not only do they give you great up to date CPR instructions but they will also protect you from the sun.

Happy swimming!!
