And then there’s always someone who doesn’t end up paying you back. You always end up out of pocket, and a bit resentful. It feels like, when you’re that laid-back person who just pulls out the credit card because you don’t want to spoil the moment, people take advantage of that. My Public Service Announcement (PSA) is: PayK.
PayK, my new best friend, is a social finance app for EXACTLY these kind of group situations. It’s super easy to set up, and it does all the icky bits of collecting money from your mates, and even sending reminders to those “slow sallies” who don’t pay on time. With PayK, you can either be a host or contributor. Obvs, I’m usually the host. The app uses your phone contacts to create the group of contributors, then they can use their Visa or Mastercard to pay their portion of whatever the cost is. Nobody needs to swap bank details or remember amounts, so they just transfer into the group kitty, and then the host can withdraw it into their bank account for free. Everyone can see who has or hasn’t paid (so there’s no squirming out of it!) and the app is super safe and secure, so privacy is not a problem.
This is a game-changer. I can already think of other ways it’s going to be handy, too. At Christmas, the whole class is going to chip in for teacher presents because they deserve something decent for wrangling our crazy kids, and they’ve probably got enough mugs, soap and candles.
