Cast a beautiful spell over afternoon tea with these magical and edible wands! How great are these? If you are looking for a simple baking activity to do with your kids – this one is perfect!
You will need:
185g butter
1 cup of caster sugar
1½ teaspoons vanilla essence
2½ cups of plain flour
1 egg
1 egg yolk, extra
star shape cookie cutter
white icing
sprinkles
wooden paddle pop stick
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180ºC (160ºC for fan forced oven). Line baking tray with baking paper.
Step 2
Process the butter, sugar and vanilla until smooth.
Step 3
Add the egg, flour and extra egg yolk and process again until it forms a smooth dough.
Step 4
Knead the dough lightly and wrap in cling wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step 5
Remove the dough from the fridge and roll out to the desired thickness of your biscuits. Rolling the dough between 2 pieces of baking paper works well.
Step 6
Cut the dough into star shapes and place on lined baking tray.
Step 7
Bake for 12 minutes or until golden. Allow biscuits to cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes. During this time, while they are still soft and pliable, insert the wooden paddle pop sticks. After this time, transfer the biscuits to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 8
Once the biscuits have cooled, ice them however you like and sprinkle with “fairy dust”.
