Who doesn’t love a Giraffe? My daughter’s home reader the other day was all about Giraffes and it was surprisingly interesting! (Not many of the home readers are and you know what I mean, don’t you..!)
Apart from them being the tallest mammal on the planet they are also very cool and feature in many children’s books including Dear Zoo, Giraffes Can’t Dance, The Little Giraffe, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, Sophie La Girafe etc.
So here is a fun craft to make as a prop to go along with these books or just for fun.
You will need:
3 wooden pegs
Yellow paint
Paintbrush
Brown and black felt pens
yellow card stock
yellow pom-pom
brown paper
glue
scissors
Step One
Cut out an oval shape from the piece of yellow card stock. Colour brown spots on it.
Step Two
Paint the 3 wooden pegs yellow and wait until they dry.
Step Three
Once the pegs are dry, draw black tips on each peg with the black felt pen as shown. These will form the hooves and ossicones (horns).
Step Four
Draw brown spots on the pegs as well.
Step Five
Take the piece of brown paper and cut tiny nicks in it to make a fringe – as shown below.
Step Six
Time to assemble – clip 2 pegs on to the bottom side of the oval shape to form the legs.
Clip the other peg on to the top of the oval to one end to be the long neck.
Apply some glue and add the yellow pom pom and brown fringed paper as the head and mane.
