To highlight the sexism shown by audience members in judging news presenters, Karl Stephanovic has worn the same suit for a year … without anyone noticing!
He conducted his secret experiment because he was angry about the unwelcome reviews that his co-hosts would get about their hair or what they wore rather than anything to do with their professional role.
“I’m judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humour – on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they’re wearing or how their hair is … ” said Stephanovic.
“Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear.”
His frustration at this, he says, sparked his experiment.
“Only Lisa and [Today team member Sylvia Jeffreys] know about the suit. They often remark that it’s getting a bit stinky. I’m hoping to get it into the dry cleaners at the end of the year.”
