I want to say from the outset that this is my favourite book to read aloud to my kids, so this review may be a little bias 😉
This is a beautiful book written by Jane Godwin and illustrated by Anna Walker. It follows an ordinary family through every day of the week and the busyness that is involved…..until they hit Sunday!! It is their favourite day. A day of no plans and no rushing.
If your little family seems to be on high speed during the week, rushing to school and juggling extra-curricular activities…then this is the perfect book to remind you of how important and precious some downtime and relaxation is. It is necessary for each family member. It is gives an opportunity to create, imagine, reflect, explore and restore.
"A busy week, a slower day, brings time to dream and time to play."
The illustrations are absolutely delightful and serene (I’m a massive fan of Anna Walker!). The book also provides an opportunity for younger children to familiarise themselves with the order for the days of the week.
If you are looking for a relevant book to read to your school aged kids, I can thoroughly recommend this one. It serves as a good reminder to consciously have ‘unplanned’ days for our kids (and us!!)
"This is a time that's just for us We have no plans today."
This book is readily available at book stores and comes in hardcover or paperback.
Enjoy!
