When Despicable Me was released at the movies in 2010, I waited until it was released on DVD to rent and watch it. BUT I was actually sorry I hadn’t taken the time to go watch it at the movies.
I love the twist that this movie gives where the villain is the protagonist. Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), the main character, makes it his quest in life to be the greatest super villain of all time. When he learns of his nemesis, Vector’s (voiced by Jason Segel), great accomplishment of stealing a pyramid, Gru plots to do something even more sinister. He makes plans with the help of his resident scientist and minions to shrink and steal the moon. He is positive that this will enable him to go down in history of the greatest super villain that ever lived.
This movie is heartwarming and engaging. When Gru meets three orphaned girls selling Girl Scout cookies, he tries to use them to accomplish his diabolical plot and gets something he never bargained for.
Despicable Me is an amazing family movie, and it is one that I watch over and over again whenever the opportunity presents itself. The minions are a hilarious addition to an already funny movie. The cast has other excellent talent in the voices of Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Russell Brand, and Kristen Wig. The music is very catchy and fun to dance to with my daughter. I even have the theme song set as my phone’s ringtone. This movie has a permanent spot on my shelf and in my heart.
