I’m a lifelong Muppet fan. When I first saw the trailer for the film, The Muppets, before it came out in 2011, I was very excited. And, I’m glad to say, it didn’t disappoint!
The Muppets was written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller and directed by James Bobin. The movie features Gary (Jason Segel), who is the brother of Muppet, Walter, and boyfriend to Mary (Amy Adams.) They travel to Los Angeles to see the home theater of their beloved Muppets. When they arrive, however, they learn that Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) has plans to tear it down and drill for oil!
They decide to get the Muppet gang (voiced by Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel) back together to save it. They travel all over the world to reunite the Muppets. Finally, they all get on board and decide to host a telethon to raise the $10 million they need to save the theater. After several thwarted attempts to stop the Muppets from succeeding, Tex Richman backs down, Kermit and Miss Piggy reunite, and Gary proposes to Mary. A very satisfying and happy ending
This movie has something for everyone. Many of the jokes were geared towards adults, as well as children, which made the 109 minute running time seem to go by in a flash. There were also a ton of cameos from celebrities, which kept me entertained. Some of the cameos included: Neil Patrick Harris, Mickey Rooney, Selena Gomez, and Sarah Silverman.
Definitely see this movie. It is charming, nostalgic, and highly entertaining!
*Fun facts: The Muppets has grossed over $88 million and won an Academy award in 2012 for best original song (“Man or Muppet.”)
