On Saturday I took my 4 year old daughter to Disney on Ice along with my 12 and 10 year old sons who I partially dragged there. These are my honest thoughts …
I wasn’t super thrilled about the outing but I had been assured that past performances were fun and I absolutely knew my daughter would love it. The show was on at the Entertainment Centre so the usual parking, walking, lining up hassles but to be honest it was all pretty smooth.
The show started pretty close to on-time which is always helpful and basically rolled through a musical/dance number and 3 familiar Disney stories. There was a brief intermission and of course the over-priced novelty merchandise stalls which I avoided skilfully!
My Thoughts?
The actual show was pretty engaging and the mix of story, music and awesome skating was cool. Everyone enjoyed the show in the end though the ‘nearly-a-teenage’ boy was phasing in and out. If anything it was a touch long but I get that if you pay $50 you want more than a 45 min show 🙂
The sound track was Disney-tacky but because some of the songs and much of the dialogue was directly from the blockbuster movies, it worked well and was easier to follow … if I had my time over I might have pre-watched the key movies with the kids in the weeks before. The American accents bothered me a bit because i always think … can’t we get an Australian MC or voiceover person at least for the intro??
The skating was great and although the boys probably wanted a spill or two we didn’t get any. The most incredible character was in fact the horse from Tangled which was performed by 2 skaters and I swear the person at the back could have no vision of where they were going … it even danced in time! Amazing.
The overall production was cracking. Awesome scene changes and they used the space really well … it certainly wasn’t dull. There was some typical pantomime style goofy-ness but also some cool aerial scenes which made me hold my breathe.
Overall I’d give the whole thing a 4 stars for anyone and a 5 stars for anyone with a young princess haha. I can’t say if its worth the money to you but I would consider taking my daughter back again for sure … and I wouldn’t pay for my boys again. That’s just me.
