16 Must Haves To Get Your Car Storage Tidy and Kid Friendly

0

Since having kids I’ve struggled to find my car / life balance!

The car always seems to be full of STUFF – but the trouble is, I need most of it on a daily basis. When we got a new car I swore I would keep it tidy BUT it’s tricky with kids…

That was until I stumbled on this great idea on Pinterest – I now use a simple shoe storage hanger over the back seat and it works a treat! (These are readily available at department stores for around $10).

This is what I have in it:

Nappy
Always good to have a spare. My youngest is nearly 2 so these days are numbered, but for now, it’s in there.

Nappy Bag
Now this is self explanatory for those stinky nappies. BUT the other day it also doubled as a doggie do-do bag when I went walking with my sister and her dog Coco.

Baby Wipes
These are all purpose wipes really. They clean up messes, wipe down hands and of course clean the baby when needed!

Umbrella
This is a fairly small umbrella and not terribly robust but it does the job! Because let’s face it, it always seems to start raining right on school pick up time. Right?!

Sunscreen & Insect Repellentcar2
Again, these are self explanatory items but are particularly good to have in the car when we happen to stay somewhere longer than expected or take a spontaneous drive somewhere.

Hairbrush and Hairbands
These are in there for those times when you pull up somewhere and either you or the kids have bed hair!

Bandaids
These are for the little accidents that may occur during an outing.car3

Hand Sanitiser
This is a necessity if we have been out and about and are wanting to stop for something to eat. It kills most (but not all) bacteria and viruses on contact.

Stingose
A lifesaver when something stings the kids. Stingose has calmed many a screaming child at a party or the park.

Handball
A great one for kids of all ages. You can play a simple game of classic catches, bounce it against a wall or play handball.

Bottle of Water
I keep one bottle of water in the car for emergencies, although my daughter seems to have to drink it every afternoon on the way home from school…

Kids Sunglasses
I keep the kids sunglasses all together in here for when they need them instead of finding them spread through the car ready to be trodden on.

car4Hats
I keep a spare hat in the back of the car in case one of us forgets ours. I have put in a cap so it can be tightened for the little ones or used by us.

Tissues
For unexpected runny noses or tears, tissues are great.

Colouring-in Pad & Pencils
These are worth their weight in gold. I just bought a couple of really cheap colouring in books (I think they were $1 from the local bargain shop) for times when we are stuck somewhere with very little to do. The kids particularly like them for when we go to (as they call them) “boring cafes”…..

Head Torch
I keep a head torch in the car for emergencies.

The system works because it is everything I need but confined to one space in the back of the car.  I am LOVING it and the difference it has made to my sanity!!
