Despicable Me 2 Movie Review

0

I was very excited to see Despicable Me 2 when it was released in 2013. I was a huge fan of the first one and had high hopes for the sequel.

Once again, Steve Carell was excellent as the voice of Gru, and Kristen Wiig returns this time as the voice of a new character, Lucy. Gru has adjusted to life as a dad but has not entirely renounced his villainous ways. Russell Brand also returns as the voice of Dr. Nefario, Gru’s scientist sidekick.

This was an entertaining movie, however, I don’t feel that it was up to par with the original.

The minions continue to add a hilarious element, and the music was thoroughly enjoyable. Personally, I feel the story line was a bit more forced, and some of the jokes were more mature than I would have liked. Overall, though, the characters remained true to form, and Lucy was a hilarious addition and love interest. Once again, Gru is tasked with saving the world, and this time, he has to do it while balancing work with his fatherly duties. While I don’t feel that this sequel lived up to the greatness of the first, it is still an excellent family film that I enjoy watching with my daughter whenever she demands the minions.
